Parades Commission NI takes strides to develop new online presence

Friday 08 December 2006    Business and Government

People in Northern Ireland, and further afield, want to know about parades and the Parades Commission - where and when parades are happening; what restrictions if any have been placed on them; how the Commission works and who the members are; what the law says about parades; and much more. The new website allows for the provision of readily available, easily accessed and accurate information.

The website was redeveloped to act as a key vehicle for the Commission in promoting and sharing information about its activities and parading issues affecting Northern Ireland.

The redesigned website is a key mechanism for developing high quality enquiry results, supporting operational processes, developing education opportunities, raising awareness of the range of programmes and services available and improving stakeholder support and involvement.

The need for inclusive design meant that, among other things, the pages are readable for screen users used by the visually impaired. The site is developed to be accessible to the partially sighted, the colour blind, users with slow modem connections, older computers, text-only web browser etc.
